Mahindra eKUV 100 launched in India, priced at Rs 8.25 lakhs.

The Electric Mobility Space of our country is getting rapidly charged up and now every auto manufacturer is planning to introduce at least one EV in our country, despite of the poor charging infrastructure. India's home-grown car manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra is a pioneer in the electric mobility space of our country with its subsidiary Mahindra Electric. Mahindra Electric already has a strong portfolio of five EVs namely eVerito, eSupro, Treo, eAlfa Mini, and e20 Plus, but unfortunately, none of these are available for the mass market. But now things are going to change as Mahindra Electric has launched its first mass-market EV based on the mini SUV KUV 100, called the Mahindra eKUV 100 at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.

First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the eKUV 100 resembles a lot to its fuel-powered counterpart, although it gets some subtle design changes to differentiate both from each other. Mahindra eKUV 100 is powered by a 40kW electric motor that churns out 54bhp of max power and 120Nm of peak torque. Power will be channeled to the front wheels via a one-speed automatic transmission. It comes with a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 150 kilometers on a single charge. The e-SUV can be fully juiced up in 5 hours 45 minutes with a regular AC charger or in just 55 minutes via a DC fast charger.

While talking about the features, we don't really have any confirmation as to what Mahindra will offer as its interior hasn't been revealed but it is expected that Mahindra might introduce a better touchscreen unit with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, an all-digital instrument cluster, and some more bits on the inside. The EV will also get smartphone app-based connectivity features.

Talking about the price, the Mahindra eKUV 100 has been launched in India at an Ex-showroom price of Rs 8.25 lakhs, making it the most affordable electric car currently on sale in India. Along with the production-spec model of the eKUV 100, Mahindra has also showcased a bunch of other EVs at Auto Expo 2020 to promote green mobility and showcase the possibility of electric cars in India in the near future.
